Arduino Uno Hello World Tutorial
This was a good opening project. I soldered. I used a potentometer [wiki]. The Arduino IDE is easy to use (available here: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software for most platforms and devices)
The whole project took about 30-45 minutes. The diagrams are easy to follow if you understand how a breadboard works.
P.S. Jules is my friend who knows a lot more about electrical engineering. Also, Amazon shipped an extra Arduino with my order. I'm on the fence about sending it back.
